#PetrosainsAfterHours: It's Artificial Intelligence!

It’s Artificial Intelligence!

Join us in an evening of discovering about Artificial Intelligence (AI) an area of computer science that focuses on the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. AI is accomplished by studying the human brain, human thought process, behaviour and problem-solving skills and subsequently using the outcome of this study as a basis of developing intelligent software and systems.

Once developed, the machines or computers will then undergo ‘The Turing Test’ which will measure its intelligence. The test establishes that a human will not be able to distinguish between the machine and another human being based on responses to questions put to both. Find out if any computer or machine passed the Turing Test.

We will also share with you AI news through the IEEE Spectrum. IEEE Spectrum is the flagship magazine and website of the IEEE, the world’s largest professional organisation devoted to engineering and the applied sciences. Several excerpts taken from the 2016 IEEE Spectrum are highlighted for the audience.

6.35-6.45pm – Introduction
6.45-7.10pm – Think & Act Rationally: 8-puzzle Game, Ken-Ken Logic Puzzle
7.10-7.30pm – The Turing Test: Still a valid test?
7.30-7.45pm Break
7.45-8.00pm – Design your intelligence test
8.00-9.00pm – AI News in IEEE Spectrum

Dr Dianne Lee-Mei Cheong is an associate professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA lecturing in Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems. She has extensive experience in the field and is the lead author in 30 publications. She has led six research projects under Malaysia Ministry of Education and two IEEE projects. She is famed for her software in detecting Cyberspace Gender Deception. Her research interests are intelligent systems and problem structuring systems. Dianne is an IEEE senior member and played a prominent role in IEEE Malaysia 2012-2014. She is currently the executive member of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society as well as IEEE Technology Engineering Management Society.

For youths and adults, 16 years old and above ONLY.

Refreshments will be provided.

This session is hosted by PETROSAINS and presented to you by Assoc Prof. Dr Dianne Cheong Lee Mei, Universiti Teknologi MARA.

Hosted by:

Petrosains, The Discovery Centre is a gateway to inspire the learning of STEM and ignite the passion for lifelong knowledge attainment in society. Established by PETRONAS, Petrosains has reached millions across the nation, giving back to the community in the informal learning of science and helping to produce scientifically literate citizens and critical thinkers in the nation.

In Collaboration with:

The Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM) is one of Malaysia’s largest universities. UITM was founded in 1956 as Dewan Latehan RIDA, a development a training centre for the Rural and Industrial Development Authority. The acronym MARA stands for Majlis Amanah Rakyat, or People’s Trust Council. MARA is a government agency, the role of which is to train indigenous Malaysian people for roles in business and industry. UITM was governed by MARA for several years, but is now independent under the Ministry of Education. There are 24 faculties and 3 academic centres at UITM. The faculties are grouped into three clusters: Science and Technology, Business and Management and Social Sciences and Humanities.
